With over 100 players attending, the open day of our latest ball court at Millhouses Park in Sheffield was a huge success.

The afternoon saw players across the country gather to play basketball and take advantage of coaching sessions from Toni Minichiello.

Working alongside our project partners, Basketball England, the pilot site consisted of the refurbishment of an existing ball court. It included new surfacing, refurbishment of the two existing frames and two reduced height frames. We installed two official Basketball England frames which were specifically designed for this project.

This court is just one in a series of projects across the country where Basketball England aims to revamp ball courts.

Tony Minichiello said: “It’s inspiring to see this place in use. It looks great, compared to what it was. The fact that kids were trying to get in here to play before it even opened, it shows what it means to the area.”

The new court caters for all age groups and all abilities. It looks appealing to attract new users and get more interest in the sport.

Peter Griffiths, Senior Delivery Manager for Basketball England said, “It was inspiring to see so many people turn out for the launch of the new courts. The improvements and the addition of  the new baskets allow people of all ages to use the facility.”

As a multi use games area supplier, Lightmain specialises in the revamp of existing ball courts. Lightmain also designs, manufactures and installs bespoke MUGAs, goal ends, youth shelters and skate.

Jemma Sampson, Project Manager at Lightmain said: “It was such a pleasure to work alongside Basketball England. It was an exciting opportunity to be part of the project, it is great to see everyone enjoying the court. This is why we work in this industry, to help bring sport into the heart of cities.”
