Bespoke Archway And Fencing

Lightmain is not just about MUGA’s as you can see from this recently completed bespoke archway and fencing project.

Developed in close collaboration with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council this majestic arch was commissioned for the new Waverley Junior Academy in Rotherham.

Waverley is located on a former open cast mine and coking plant. This archway contains subtle references to that heritage within its design. Each laser cut panel displays the chemical symbol for coal.

The Corten (weathering steel) archway fits perfectly with the requirements specified within the ‘Waverley Design Code’ and is a stunning focal point that emphasises the school entrance and walkways. Part of the code requires key junctions on the Waverley development incorporate visually stimulating artwork or features. The bespoke archway delivers exactly that. The stainless-steel lettering making up the school name contrasts strikingly with the aging appearance of the Corten. The old, and the new.

Specification

This impressive structure stands over 5 metres high, 3.4 metres wide and 1.7 metres deep. The framework alone weighs over 3 tonnes and that’s before adding the panels. The gate weighs 250kgs and is supported by a high load bearing to allow minimal force to open and close.

With the current pandemic, the value of local community settings and the need for clear walkways are needed more than ever.
