Rugby Road Park MUGA, Whiting Landscapes

Epsom and Ewell High School

We were thrilled to work in partnership with landscaping giant, Whiting Landscapes on their latest redesign of Rugby Road Park in Hinckley.

We were approached by Whiting Landscape to help them bring an element of sport and exercise into their project by designing, manufacturing and installing an exciting multi use games area.

Our work included the excavation of grass to create a new tarmac pad to accommodate the MUGA and make it suitable for two sports, football and basketball.

We designed a 20m x 12m MUGA using our Heavy Duty Sports Fencing creating a beautiful arched fence line along the goal end, reaching the height of 4m. The arch slopes down into curved corners to continue the flow of the shape and to help keep the ball in play when bounced against the curved wall.

The length of the MUGA has a 1m high fence height with two chicane entrances, making it easily accessible and provides numerous escape routes. To ensure the MUGA suited its surroundings, we powdercoated the steel in green so it blended in with the landscape.

The MUGA also features two heavy duty open curved back goals which provide additional access points, along with basketball hoops and backboards. The goals are made using the same fence panels as the rest of the MUGA, making them ideal for to high usage. Our Heavy Duty Fencing range is an extremely heavy duty system and provides superior resistance to vandalism and abuse, making it ideal for a public area.

The steel is hot-dipped galvanised to prevent rust and is powder-coated to prolong the paintwork. The fencing carries a 25 year guarantee. During a recent test, our heavy duty system was proven to be 50 per cent quieter than the industry standard twin wire system when hit by a ball at high speed.

As part of the design we also use circular posts which are more durable and atheistically pleasing compared to the usual box section posts used with other systems.

Whiting Landscape offers a full range of services to cover every aspect of landscape construction and maintenance.Chris Ogden from Whiting Landscapes said: “Lightmain provided a thoroughly professional and high quality service from start to finish. We chose Lightmain, as the MUGA had to be delivered for a specific budget to a tight programme.

“They worked with us closely during the procurement stage, keeping us informed of lead in periods and intended programme.”

When on site, the MUGA was installed on time and to
a high standard. We would certainly use Lightmain on
future schemes.”

The project ran smoothly from start to finish. We project managed the entire process from design, site visits, customer meetings, manufacture and installation. It was produced to an extremely high standard in less than three weeks.
